Hormonal drugs are used to stimulate the ovaries at the start of the procedure. This raises the likelihood of successful fertilization by assisting in the production of several mature eggs. Egg growth is tracked through routine blood tests and scans.

Egg retrieval, also known as ovum pick-up, is a minor procedure that is carried out once the eggs are ready. Eggs are extracted from the ovaries during this painless, sedative procedure.
